Established in Beirut on April 12, 2002, the Children’s Cancer Center of Lebanon
(CCCL) is a not for-profit medical institution dedicated to the comprehensive
treatment of pediatric cancer. An affiliate of St. Jude Children’s Research
Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, CCCL applies the protocols of St. Jude, which
have increasingly successful cure rates of 70 to 80%.
The Center works in
close cooperation with the American University of Beirut Medical Center.
Being not-for-profit, they depend on donations and fundraising programs to
fulfill their mission.
As CCCL is embarking on its third year, more than 200
patients have been treated or are still undergoing treatment. In addition, CCCL
offers preliminary diagnosis testing freely to hundreds of children from other
hospitals. CCCL’s vision for all children to live healthy cancer-free lives
relies strongly on the policy of accepting patients without any distinction or
discrimination, whether religious, political, or social, and regardless of their
ability to pay. They cover all costs of care beyond those reimbursable by third
party payers and total costs when the latter are not available.
